Snag for Android

Save the posts you want to keep.

Snag is a personal-use Android app that saves TikTok and Instagram posts to the phone: videos, photo carousels, or just the audio, straight from the share sheet.

Private Personal use only. Snag isn’t available to download.

What it does

Share a post to Snag, and it lands in the phone’s gallery and in a library built for finding it again.

Save from the share sheet

In TikTok or Instagram, tap Share, then Snag (or Snag audio). The download runs in the background, so you never leave the app you’re in.

A copied link, a Quick Settings tile, selected text, or a pasted list of links work too.

Videos, photos, or audio

Videos save as MP4, without the watermark when a clean version is available. Photo slideshows and carousels save as images, and audio saves as .m4a.

Files land in the phone’s Movies, Pictures, and Music folders, so they show up in Gallery, named by platform, creator, post date, and post ID.

A library with a player

Tap a clip for a full-screen player: swipe up or down through the library, tap to pause, and mute, favorite, or share from there.

Long-press to select several clips and tag, favorite, share, or delete them together.

Tags, sorting, and search

Add your own tags, like “recipes” or “workouts,” and they become filter chips. Sort by saved or posted date, creator, length, or size.

Search by creator, caption, hashtag, or tag, or tap a creator to see everything saved from them.

Trim

Trim a video or audio clip. The trim is saved as a copy, and the original is kept.

You can also save just the audio from a video.

Backup

Copy the library to a folder you pick, on phone storage, an SD card, or a USB drive.

Run it once, or let it copy each new save automatically.

Privacy and security

Snag has no accounts, no analytics, and no ads. What it saves stays on the phone.

  • It connects only over HTTPS, and only to TikTok, Instagram, and their content delivery networks. The allowlist is enforced at every layer, from DNS lookups to the in-app web view, and user-installed certificate authorities aren’t trusted.
  • It needs no storage permission. Files are saved through Android’s scoped storage, and Backup gets access only to the one folder you pick.
  • App data is excluded from Android backup, so Snag’s catalog of links and captions, and any sign-in cookie, never leave the phone.
  • Signing in to Instagram is optional. It happens on instagram.com itself, in a web view limited to Instagram and Facebook pages, and the session cookie stays on the phone. Signing out clears it.
  • The clipboard is read only while Snag is open, once per copied item, and only TikTok and Instagram links are ever shown.
  • Every download is checked by its file signature before it’s written, so an error page can never be saved as a video.
  • It asks for four permissions: internet, network state (for Wi-Fi-only downloads and retries), notifications, and a foreground service for downloads.

For personal use

Snag is a personal tool, not a public product. It isn’t listed in any app store and isn’t available to download.

Respect creators, and only save what you have the right to keep.
